Did you know...
Without volunteers many tasks that improve rural and natural environments in Britain could not be achieved.
The Dedham Vale AONB and Stour Valley Project runs the Stour Valley Volunteers who undertake practical habitat management within the Stour Valley. Click on links alongside for more details.
There are however, many other ways in which people can help look after the Stour Valley environment:
The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers run practical conservation projects from their base in Colchester.
The National Trust also run a number of conservation work days on their land in and around Flatford.
The Suffolk Wildlife Trust and Essex Wildlife Trust occasionally have work days on their reserves in the valley: Daws Hall, Loshes Meadow, Cornard Mere, Spouses Vale.
Local community groups within the Stour Valley also have their own local projects, and are always looking for new people to help.
It’s not all tree planting and digging ponds though, many groups need volunteers to help with fund raising, preparing newsletters and recruiting new members.
Whichever organisation or community group you decide to join, you can be sure of a warm welcome, with the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, learn new skills, meet new people and make a positive contribution to this special area.
