As part of the Hedgehog Friendly Village Project in East Bergholt some local hedgehog champions have identified some places in the countryside next to the village where some hedges and scrub can be planted to help connect habitats.

The Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty team have arranged some tasks to do this hedge planting and would love the support of volunteers to help us! All tools will be provided and the dates and location of these hedge planting tasks

1. Saturday 12th March 10:00am – 12:30pm

Meet: Allens Farm entrance opposite Hadleigh Road/Elm Road. Please wear a high vis tabard/jacket if you have one. We will be planting a hedge along the verge. Spare high vis will be provided if needed.

2. Saturday 12th March 2:00pm – 4:00pm

Meet: Flatford Lane Fields. Walk down Flatford lane. Once into one way system look out for some houses on the left, opposite the 2nd house, Flatford Lodge, there is a layby on the right with a metal gate.

NB – to access the tree planting here you will have to climb over a fence. A platform ladder will be provided for this purpose.

3. Monday 21st – Wednesday 23rd March10:00am – 3:00pm

Hedge planting site : If you just want to turn up at some point during the day to help with the hedge planting, the site is down the footpath (known locally as the Donkey track) from the corner of Richardson’s Road. It’s the footpath that joins up with Gandish Road.

For tasks :

Wear: warm old clothes, sturdy boots,

Bring: gloves, waterproofs if needed, seat and lunch/ hot drink if staying for coffee /whole day
